Data Mining Optimization (DMO)

About Us

The Data Mining & Optimization Laboratory (DMO) conducts research and development (R&D) to solve complex business and scientific problems using AI-based algorithms, machine learning, operational research (OR) and the application of advanced analytical methods to improve decision-making. The DMO laboratory was established in April 2007 by Prof. Emeritus Dr Abdul Razak Hamdan. Our objective at the DMO Laboratory is to construct a research system that comprehensively and seamlessly links several types of analytics, significantly predictive and prescriptive analytics. DMO Lab aims to create a world-class research hub for data mining and optimization applications to apply the system to solve real-world problems by combining optimization and machine learning techniques that meet decision-maker and business goals.

RESEARCH FOCUS AND OUTPUT

Data mining and optimization:

  • The application of techniques used in computer science, mathematics, and artificial intelligence to improve the process of knowledge discovery in data mining, e.g., classification, association rule mining, clustering, and deviation detection.
  • Artificial intelligence-based algorithms for addressing optimization issues, feature selection, and pattern validation in big data.
  • Nature-inspired computing methods to solve data mining tasks.
  • Applications – disease outbreak detection, climate change informatics, text mining in finance and health informatics.
